Awesome school and lots of fun

Year 8 ECO Day

Year 8 Eco Day

The children in Year 8 were offered a great opportunity to do some worthwhile eco-friendly projects that would make them think carefully about our environment, but also have fun at the same time. The activities on offer were paper making using recycled paper, solar panel cars and bird feeder tables.

In Mr Fairfield's DT room there was a hectic atmosphere with quite a rhythmic banging of hammers and whirring noise sounds coming from pieces of wood being sawn. Onto Mr Grahams lab where could be heard singing along to pop music mingled with a ferocious air of concentration as the children worked to construct their cars. Up in the Art room much fun was had with water, paper, plastic and some boys ironing-a rare sight if ever there was one!

The children came away from this day having achieved something creatively, which could be of benefit to the environment, and souvenirs to remind them of what they were able to achieve.

Some comments on the day included:

‘Paper making was fun because we could do it ourselves. It's eco friendly, creative and we are saving our planet by reusing materials.'

‘Making solar panel cars was so cool because it was really enjoyable but also academic. We had a slide show which told us how much oil we are producing and wasting and the need for alternative sources of renewable energy.'

‘I was surprised I could make the cars as well as I could.'

‘I enjoyed hammering nails into the wood and creating something that will be of use to the birds.'

‘The bunting was really enjoyable-you can make your own style out of it.'
